Satisfyingly Chaotic

These photos were quickly snapped up in the midst of the mayhem that was Fashion Avenue. Where an array of national as well as local designers showed their latest collections. There was much to be marvelled over as embellished frocks and geometric prints glided over the catwalk. The styling added an additional touch of detail, one of the stand out looks were the tribal prints that were matched with innovative boomerang neckpieces. Hair and makeup was ever evolving as each intermission called for coloured streaks, updos, curled tresses and straight locks. We resisted rummaging through our gift bags, sipped on a few (too many) drinks and enjoyed watermelon and pistachio macaroons. The ambience was truly buzzing, it was a night well spent.

New Dimensions

Thomas Allen has been ripping holes in the art universe in the form of taking apart vintage novels, science books and encyclopaedias. He eviscerates images; making cut outs, then arranges them with pins, glue and tape, takes photographs and then colour corrects the overlapping exposures with editing software. A contributor to the Wall Street Journal since 2011, Allen’s vivid dioramas take on a story line of their own. His work is currently on display at The Foley Gallery in New York which is where the images below can be found.
